03-14-2010 Jinggoy hails his “Compadre” Manny Pacquiao for win over Clottey Posted: March 15th, 2010 @ 2:37am
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada today lauded his compadre, People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao, for the latter’s victory over Ghanian boxer Joshua Clottey via a unanimous 12-round decision to retain his World Boxing Organization welterweight title.
Pacquiao, who thus marked a spectacular 12-win streak, showed a dominating performance before the estimated crowd of more than 50,000 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Texas as well the millions of people in the rest of the world who watched the fight, capped by a 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109 scorecards victory.
“Pareng Manny, you brought another great honor to our country and to the Filipino people,” Estrada, godfather of Pacquiao’s fourth and youngest child, Queen Elizabeth, nicknamed “Queenie”, said.
Estrada stood as a “ninong” of Queenie when she was baptized on February 22 last year at the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish Church in General Santos City, Pacquiao’s hometown.
“I cherish that very memorable day when yours truly was given the opportunity and the honor by good spouses Manny and Jinkee to be their compadre and provide the baptismal gown for my inaanak, Queenie, on her Christening day,” Estrada said, adding: “It was indeed a momentous event for all of us as we joined Manny and Jinkee in praying for Queenie’s growing up as a good Christian.”
“Congratulations again, Pareng Manny, and thank you very much for making us, your countrymen, all the more proud to be Filipinos,” Estrada said.
