GSIS benefits...how to claim.June 19, 2010 @ 12:50am
To: Hon. Jinggoy Estrada
Senator, Republic of the Philippines

Sir;
I would like to extend my deepest admiration to the good senator for another term of office vested on you by the majority of our people. Truly, you are a senator trusted by every Filipinos in any walks of life. Your versatility, courage, knowledge and integrity did shows in the last election and manifest in every hearts and minds that this is a good senator worthy to be won.
Sir, the reason I wrote to you is to seek your help. Simply thru meddling or by legislations if this has reason to be one.

My name is Crispin E. Acuña, a City Government Employee (Meat Inspector lll). I’ve been working for almost (16) sixteen years in Marikina City (LGU). Last year August 2009, I was diagnosed of having a Lung Cancer NSCL Stage IV a disease to some consider as hopeless. But for us, who has the disease and still fighting, it is a chance for survival. We know that this means a long journey of battle and in order to win you need to be equipped, whether it would be emotional, spiritual, and financial.

Last January, I apply for a claim in GSIS Sickness Income Benefit under RA-9291 this program aim is to help government employee like me who suffer from occupational disease with their high medical expenditures. After 2-weeks, I received a letter informing that my application was disapproved due to lack of requirements; the Biopsy result and Certificate of Absence without pay (LWOP) the latter being questioned by our Personnel Department. Nevertheless, I re-apply again last May 4, 2010 with the two requirements hoping that when I submit these there will be no problem anymore and I will be just wait for my application to process. Unfortunately, instead of a letter I received a text message coming from GSIS stating that my application was again disapproved due to lack of requirements which this time they did not disclosed. What can you expect for a text messages anyway.

After my 6-cycle of chemotherapy, I beg my oncologist to give me permission to enable me to be back to work. At first, she was hesitant because of my condition of lower immunity and susceptibility to infections. My family feared with my condition, also against my decision to work (I was on sick leave for 11 months). With my repeated request finally, my doctor agreed on a condition that I will work on an office setting to minimize the possibility of getting infections and advise me to continue my maintenance therapy, regular check-ups, and CT scan for every 2-months.

Do I really need to work?

Sir, I joined a community of Lung Cancer Patient and Survivor in the net and find out that in their country, once you have diagnosed of cancer, you can qualify for a pension. Their SSI which may be equivalent to our GSIS, will consider you a permanent disability. They will give you all the support because they understand what your needs.

I am not asking for a permanent or temporary disability pension. It just a sickness benefit/claim from our Government Services Insurance System where I was a member for almost 13 years that denies me or gives me a hard time.

Dear Senator, I leave this to you with your wisdom and knowledge that every corrupt and unworthy minds in the government must not be exist, and I am hoping for your deepest sincerity on this matter.

God Bless and More Power!

Crispin E. Acuña
