"UTANG NG AMA" (2003) Posted: August 5th, 2008 @ 5:10am Director: TONY Y. REYES Writer: MEL MENDOZA-DEL ROSARIO Produced by: MAVERICK FILMS Cast of Characters: JINGGOY ESTRADA - DON JOEY MARQUEZ - ROWEL KATYA SANTOS - JUSTINE RUBY RODRIGUEZ Other Cast in Alphabetical Order: RUDY FERNANDEZ GARY LISING MAHAL VHONG NAVARRO PHILIP SALVADOR LORNA TOLENTINO In Utang ng Ama, Jinggoy plays Ruel. His father is played by Philip Salvador and his father’s best friend by Rudy Fernandez. Between the two friends, money is nothing, so Rudy loans Phillip money, that after the two men die, Rudy’s widow is now demanding to be paid. So Jinggoy had to work for her as the personal assistant (alalay is the Tagalog pejorative) to Don (Joey Marquez), her son. Ruel is mockingly referred to by Adela as utang ng ama (thy father’s debt), which is also Don’s term of endearment to his newfound friend. But the movie is not about paying someone’s debt, but about friendship. Trust director Tony Y. Reyes to weave together vignettes of comic situations involving the two actors and you’ve got some rollicking movie. |
