04-20-2010 Jinggoy wants to disbar Agra

Posted: April 20th, 2010 @ 11:13pm

RE-ELECTIONIST Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) has directly accused his former Ateneo classmate Justice Secretary Alberto Agra of blindly following an order from Malacañang and allowing himself to be used as a “willing tool of the administration” in repaying its political gratitude to the powerful Ampatuan clan.

“While I know Sec. Agra personally because we used to attend the same school, I cannot in my conscience agree with what he just did. I feel sorry for him because he allowed himself to be used as a tool by the administration in repaying a debt which was not his,” Estrada said.

He added that Agra blindly followed an order from Malacañang and totally disregarded what was supposed to be the proper, right and just thing to do.

Estrada was reacting to the decision of Secretary Agra to drop the multiple murder charges against suspended Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Zaldy Ampatuan and former Maguindanao province Vice Gov. Akmad Ampatuan for the death of 57 persons, including members of the rival Mangudadatu clan, their supporters and some 32 media men.

Estrada also pointed out that instead of “seizing the opportunity to uphold justice and let the truth triumph, Agra opted to back down from the challenge and opted to obey a dubious order”.

He stressed that he is now consulting with his legal team as well as other concerned groups and sectors to explore the possibility of initiating disbarment proceedings against Agra.

“If disbarring him is the right thing to do, then we will not hesitate in doing it,” he stressed.

“Everybody knows that Mrs. Arroyo owed her victory in the 2004 elections to the Ampatuans and despite what had happened she cannot just turn her back on them lest they finally open their mouth and tell everything “ he said.

The maverick senator also said that there could be truth to the allegations of some quarters that Agra’s decision to clear two members of the Ampatuans of multiple charges could be part of a grand scheme to ensure the victory of Nacionalista Party bet Sen. Manny Villar in the May 10 elections.

Villar is long suspected to be the secret candidate of President Arroyo which spawned the term “Villarroyo” owing to the obvious support he was getting not only from President Arroyo and her husband but also to the continued exodus of Lakas-Kampi members to his camp.

“We cannot discount that possibility. Let’s face it, the Ampatuans are still politically powerful and they opted to let Gov. Zaldy out so that he could help them with their campaign in the ARMM,” he added.
